Star Trek: It’s a Virus, Cap’n
When you’re a part-time professional geek snarkista, you get strange stuff in the mail. Or rather, the newspaper where you work gets weird stuff. and they take it straight to your desk. “Here, Rach, maybe you know what the hell this is?” said the arts editor, handing me a weird plastic card with a picture of a baby on it.
A baby with pointy ears.
Turns out I just got a viral marketing promotion for the new Star Trek flick. And this is no mere promotion: it’s one of exactly 100 USB cards that have been sent around to the press, each one containing bizarre hand-drawn Star Trek wallpapers. The artists include James Franco, Mr. Brainwash, Robert Rodrigues, House Industries, Brandon Ragnar, Jim Lee, Afro-Punks, and a bunch of other people - though I don’t know who did which one.
Here’s my card, next to some other fave merch:

Anyway, I’m sure some of you out there must be geeks. So here’s the deal: there are 20 different cards, and I have number 17. I’ll post the wallpapers here so you can enjoy them. Because you’re geeks.
And because, well, I grew up digging Star Trek too. I used to pretend I was the captain of a starfleet vessel. I was tough but fair, and I looked like red-hot adventure in that uniform. And I never, ever flinched from danger. I would send as many people to their sure and certain deaths as I had to in order to get the job done. But well, anyway, look at me go on.
I have three wallpapers, #3, 5, and 8. #5 is up top. Here are the other two: just click to get the full-size version.

That’s awesome! I need to start me a blog…
I know my partner and our friend would have *died* if I said, “Oh here, you can have this.” They can name any episode of ST:TNG in under 5 seconds. lol

Well, what’s nice is that I can share all the assets right here - except of course for the USB card itself. I still get to lord that over everyone.
I only posted the largest versions of each desktop (again, just click to grab it), but when I have a sec I’ll post all five sizes.

Don’t care much for Star Trek but just how awesome is A Cry For Help? I gots me a signed copy, with little weird skeleton octopus floating around on the inside. It also tells me to go fuck myself. So awesome.

Mine’s not signed! And it doesn’t tell me to fuck myself at all! Okay Mr. McMillen, you’re going to be crying for help all right …
