GDC Heads Up: Prove I Was There
![]()
So that picture up there is my business card. My first-ever business card, believe it or not, and I’m very proud. This is no Kinko’s lunch-rush toss-out: it’s a professionally-printed deluxe two-sided color card. And it almost matches my hair!
Here’s the deal. As I’ve told you all, I’m going to GDC next week. I’ll be covering the conference and my impressions and reactions here on this blog, and on Twitter. And I’ll be running around meeting people and naturally, handing out my shiny new business cards.
Thing is: my friend Jessica has a bet with me. She doesn’t think I can network. She doesn’t believe I’m actually going to get out there and work the room, let alone get rid of all these cards I just paid for.
I know what you’re thinking: biiiiiitch. But Jess is cool. She just wants to make sure I get out there and have fun. So we have this friendly wager.
Jessica wants to know that you have my cards. If you get one - whether I handed it to you, or you picked it up in the convention hall or the women’s room or wherever - write me at my e-mail address (it’s right on there), and send me proof you have the card.
There are two ways to do that:
1. Take a photo of yourself holding the card. This is more fun and we all have camera phones, so it should be easy.
2. OR. For bonus points: there’s a message on the back of the card (you know, the side I’m not showing you). It’s printed in code. Jessica tells me that you should all be able to figure out how to crack it, and if you do, you jump to the front of the line.
I’ll send your proof to Jessica, and she promises that the first 10 or so people I pass her will get something very cool. She won’t tell me what, but she promises it’s worth your trouble.
Deal?

I’m going to have to start two comment threads here - one for people with excuses, and another for the people who are ready to step up.

Man, I really wished I could get out to CA on a more frequent basis. I would *love* to take part in events like GDC, especially for chances to do awesome stuff like meet you! Alas. One day, maybe, when I have more time and money…

Meet me in the lobby of Moscone West at 9am on Monday? There’s a chance I’ll be schedule to work a shift, but I’ll Twitter my whereabouts throughout the week.
And in case it doesn’t go without saying, I’ll be the guy with the curly moustache and bowler hat.

Corvus - not sure I can make Moscone at 9 AM that morning. But I can’t forget that moustache, and will keep an eye out for your hat!
Ursos - Maybe next year? GDC should be a blast, though if you’re more interested in the fans and the games than the industry, I’ve heard PAX is even better - and next year that’ll be bi-coastal …
