Pix Vix Picks - Feb 8

Short this week. I have plans for next weekend. They’re all about love. But for now:
- Steven Levy, TEDsters Smile Through Financial Meltdown (Wired) - I know plenty of tech junkies who worship the TED lectures, and would give a leg to hang out with the executives and technorati who convene to hear these 21st century pep talks. Myself, I find them, almost as a rule, torturously upbeat and vague. The speakers are self-actualizing while Rome burns, a point Steven Levy makes in this article, where he acknowledges all the speakers who do good works and want to fix the world - but who all seemed to miss the global economic meltdown that’s right on their doorsteps.
- Behind The Scenes Of Media Molecule’s LittleBigPlanet (Gamasutra) - Interesting quotes from Game Developer magazine’s LBP post-mortem, highlighting the struggle of new company Media Molecule to find their footing while launching their first major project. At a glance, they sound like big-time hippies.
- Eliza Gauger, Goonfleet stomps Band of Brothers in biggest EVE takedown ever (Destructoid) - I rarely play MMOGs, but I love to read about ‘em. And this dispatch from EVE Online - while a little hard for a noob to parse - tells the story of the end of a years-long war between two … what do they call them in EVE, clans? Corporations? Either way, I’d love an in-depth report on the griefing, the espionage, the takeover, the personalities. Mankind gets no uglier than this.
The kicker: Daniel Purvis’ photograph Just One More Life is a rimshot pun and a great image. Buy a print!

Thank you for the shout out!
I’ve plans for a series of similarly themed shots though the execution is going to kill me.
